Introduction

Certain industrial processes are required to apply for a permit or authorisation from the Local Authority in which they operate.

Currently, there are two key acts used for regulating industrial processes:-

There is a programme to transfer existing authorisations under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to permits under the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999, which is latest legislation.

Within the above acts there are other associated directives, one of which is the Solvents Emission Directive.
