Multi-million pound boost for housing in St Edmundsbury

Affordable housing in St Edmundsbury has received a multi-million pound boost which will see 234 new homes built across the borough over the next two years (2006-2008). The news comes following a successful bid to the Housing Corporation for a total of £5.47 million in funding.
Hanchett Village - new homes adapted for families with disabled children

Hanchett Village, Haverhill

Two specially-adapted new homes, designed and built to address the day-to-day needs of families living with their disabled children, have recently been handed over at a housing development at Hanchett End, part of the larger Hanchett Village estate, Haverhill.

Both families worked closely with architects, developers, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Suffolk County Council, Suffolk Housing Society and Iceni Homes from the design stage to make sure the shape of the homem and the internal lay-outs can best support their particular needs.

The site includes 42 affordable homes for rent and is a mix of one and two-bedroom flats, two and three-bedroom houses and the two specially adapted homes. They will be managed by Suffolk Housing Society.

The official opening of Hales Barn (Phase 2) took place on 10 June 2008 following the completion of eight homes for rent and nine for shared ownership.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council are very pleased to have contributed £150,000 to the project and worked in partnership with Jephson Housing to provide these much needed homes.

Peach Maltings

The handover of 20 one and two-bedroom properties started in May 2008 at the Peach Maltings development at Thingoe Hill, Bury St Edmunds. Sixteen are for shared ownership and four for rental tenants. They will be managed by Suffolk Housing Society, a local housing association based in Bury St Edmunds that manages over 1,800 affordable homes across parts of the Eastern region.

A further 12 two-bedroom rental homes on this development are due to be handed over to Suffolk Housing Society later in the year.

The official opening of Hales Barn, Haverhill took place on 2 March 2007 following the completion of 40 units (20 for shared ownership and 20 for rent)  St Edmundsbury Borough Council worked in partnership with Flagship Housing.
