Most funerals are sold as a 'package' and it can be difficult to get the actual price of each part of the funeral. This creates particular difficulties if you do not want some parts included in the package.
The Office of Fair Trading has suggested that clear pricing should apply to charges. This would mean you would know what each part of the funeral cost, allowing you to chose more, or less, in line with your needs. For example, you could keep the body at home but buy a coffin and use a hearse from a funeral director. This kind of funeral would allow you to be more personally involved and would be less expensive.
Funeral directors, in general, do not offer clear pricing and continue to promote the package funeral.
