From 1 January 2010 the council introduced a food safety award scheme for food businesses.
All food premises are given a score after their routine inspections. This looks at several factors including:
- type of food produced;
- method of handling;
- hygiene;
- structure; and
- confidence in management.
The score given relates directly to how good or bad the premises are and decides the frequency of inspections.
The 'Scores on the Doors' scheme will use these scores to assign a star rating to the premises based on the factors that the food business operator has direct control over. These are:
- food hygiene and safety;
- structure and cleaning; and
- management and control.
The scores range form 0 to 30 for each factor. The lower the score the better you are in complying with the law. See below for further information:
The star rating will be updated periodically on the website as food businesses are inspected and issued certificates indicating the amount of stars achieved. These scores will also be updated at each subsequent inspection. Currently the list contains food businesses that have been inspected and rated since 1 January 2010.
