Vehicle accesses

It is illegal to cross a public footway in a car or other vehicle for the purpose of off road parking unless a properly constructed access is available.

Crossing the footway other than on properly constructed accesses may cause damage to the kerbs, footway or services underneath the footway. Large and deep ruts occur in verges causing potential hazards to pedestrians.

You can apply for a dropped crossing if you wish to park your vehicle off the road and no such facility already exists. You will be required to meet the costs of this in full including any planning application fees that may be required. There is also a non refundable administration fee applicable of £100.

The work to the crossing must be completed by an approved accredited contractor, it is illegal to excavate in the highway unless you are licensed to do so.
