Corn Exchange leasehold marketing exercise

Corn Exchange exterior

The closing date for bids for the leasehold was 7 April 2010. This page has details of the information that was available to prospective bidders.

In 2010 St Edmundsbury Borough Council will be opening its new Apex public venue, within the arc development in Bury St Edmunds. The Apex is designed by the internationally renowned Hopkins Architects and will make an outstanding contribution to the cultural life of the borough and surrounding areas. It will seat 500 for formal performances and accommodate over 700 people standing, as well as offering a completely flexible space for conference and community use.

At that time, the Corn Exchange in Bury St Edmunds will no longer be required as a public hall and the council has therefore decided to seek a new tenant for this important historic building. The lease is being marketed commercially, to relevant local organisations and also through press advert. A formal prospectus is available.

No decisions have been reached on the nature of the new use for the building, although the council must obviously bear in mind its duty to achieve best value for the local taxpayer. The council will therefore consider community management as well as commercial uses and operators. Accordingly offers are invited on either, or both, of the following bases:

and should be made by no later than noon on Wednesday 7 April 2010 to:
