The council is committed to supporting voluntary organisations and community groups which operate within St Edmundsbury and whose services support the councils aims and objectives.
The councils grants schemes include:
- Arts grants. Awards up to £500 to help towards art and cultural projects.
- Capital grants for a specific project or initiative. Recent grants awarded include Lidgate Village Hall Committee helping to completely refurbish the hall, Kedington Parish Council to assist with the upgrading of the children's play area and Cavendish Wanderers Cricket Club to help with the purchase of capital equipment.
- Core funding to help voluntary and community organisations with their running costs. Examples include The Citizens Advice Bureau, The Volunteer Centres, a local history group and communities entering the Britain in Bloom competitions.
- Grants for less than £250 for community based organisations and charities. These currently include annual grants to resident associations and a percentage discount on the rates for hire of St Edmundsburys halls.
- Rural areas community initiatives fund. Grants awarded up to £5000 towards community capital projects.
