A comprehensive look at St Edmundsbury
Every council in the country is looked at in detail by independent inspectors from the Audit Commission. The process is called Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) - it's the local government equivalent of schools' Ofsted reports, or NHS star ratings. Councils are also judged as to whether or not they are improving.
The borough and district councils in Suffolk were inspected in September 2004, St Edmundsbury was rated 'good'.

Each year we receive a report from the Audit Commission which outlines issues which have been identified through audit and inspection work. The report includes the results of the Use of Resources Assessment which assesses how we manage our resources and deliver value for money.

We also monitor how we are improving as a council through the council's Improvement Plan. The plan sets out some key outcomes, identified from audit and inspection work, and actions we need to undertake to achieve these outcomes. Throughout the year we monitor our progress and at the end of the year publish a progress report.
