A passion for excellence St Edmundsbury Borough Council has been rated as excellent by a government watchdog with a points score which puts it top of the country.
Every one of the 238 district and borough councils in England goes through a Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) by the government's national watchdog, the Audit Commission. Councils are rated poor, weak, fair, good or excellent.
In February 2008 St Edmundsbury was rated excellent with 58 points – just two points off the maximum possible score. No council has ever scored higher and only one other has equalled it.
