Contrary to rumour, the Levellers gig at The apex hasn't quite sold out as yet, however we recommend fans should book now to avoid disappointment.
24 years after forming and still with their original line up, Levellers are still as musically and politically astute as ever. Their first album, 1990's 'A Weapon Called the Word' is one of the few albums known to have gone gold without ever charting. The following year they released 'Levelling the Land' which was a massive success, entering the charts at number 14 and eventually going platinum, the single 'One Way' becoming a live favourite for years to come. 'Levelling The Land' is often cited as an all time classic amongst people who were students or travellers in the early 1990s and the band celebrated the 20th anniversary of the album's release in 2011 with a 30,000 capacity sell out tour of the UK.
1997's catchy slice of pop rock 'What A Beautiful Day' has also become a firm live favourite, reaching out far beyond the Levellers' traditional fanbase and helping to form the name of their festival in the years to follow.
The band release their tenth studio album, Static On The Airwaves, on 25 June 2012 through their own On The Fiddle Recordings. Already being heralded as their most accomplished album to date, Static On The Airwaves is the sound of a band whose incisive lyrics, innate musicality and passion have continued to improve rather than diminish in nearly a quarter of a century of writing, recording and performing.
Sell-out tours and nine years of a sell-out festival are powerful proof of the power of the underground and the power of great live music. Renowned for their energetic live show, longevity has not diminished the Levellers' ability to put in a performance and get everyone in a room, or field, dancing.
Tickets are £19, available from The apex box office on 01284 758000 or www.theapex.co.uk. Show starts approximately 7.30pm
