New Exhibition: Keeping Time
Our latest exhibition is now open. The theme of this exhibition is the notion of collecting. It has been laid out to demonstrate the collecting of fine art pieces as Frederick Gershom Parkington did, but it also draws on the other elements of the Borough's collection. These range from the Allen collection of American clocks, local makers, and the novelty pieces; the flintlock alarm-clock, the Banjo clock and so on. St Edmundsbury's Horology collection is not the largest in the Country but certainly one of the finest.
Entry to the exhibition is included in admission with a Heritage ticket

Medieval Gallery
Earlier this year Moyse's Hall's West Gallery was revamped into our Medieval gallery. This has a variety of items from the Medieval period including a locket containing the hair of Mary Tudor, some medieval weapons, also some finds from the Abbey as well as some Abbey stone, some which still remains in the Abbey gardens.

The museum has themed displays offering opportunities for study and exploration based on:
- Local history - Suffolk Regiment, Red Barn Murder
- Social history - Crime and punishment, coinage, death, witchcraft
A permanent exhibition is 'Faces of Time', which shows a variety of clocks and paintings. Moyse's Hall offers a variety of events for children and adults, please see our Museum events pages to find out more.
For almost a thousand years Moyse's Hall has looked out over the Market Place of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. It has seen many changes since it was built in 1180 and has had a variety of different uses, including a tavern and a 'gaol'. Currently it's a museum which provides an excellent setting in which to trace the unfolding story of West Suffolk, through displays which range from prehistoric times right through to the present. Moyse's Hall's own story is as rich and varied as the collections which it houses. The pages below invite you to explore this history including those of a grisly murder; visit the pages on the Red Barn Murder to find out more.
