Affordable housing - Smithy CloseThe Housing team is made up of two main areas of work.

Housing Development Team

We work to develop affordable housing in the borough through partnership with local housing associations and developers, as well as work to identify the level of housing need and set priorities to meet the need in the borough. We also monitor empty homes and work to bring long term empty homes back into use.

Housing Options Team

We offer housing advice, homelessness prevention services, and manage the housing register (Home-Link) for the borough.

Further information on our services can be found via the menu on the left, or for advice on housing options and/or to access the housing register visit Home-Link.

When are we available?

The Housing Options Team are available during the following times:

  • Bury St Edmunds - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 3pm
  • Haverhill - Friday 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 4pm

Outside of these times a telephone service is available in both offices by using the telephone situated next to the public computers. Customers can press the button marked Housing where a member of the Housing Options Team will be available to offer advice or assistance for Homelessness Prevention and Home-link enquiries.

Completed application forms and/or copied documents (please note that originals will not be returned) can be placed in an envelope provided and placed in the Quick Drop box situated by the public computers.

Private rented housing

If you are a private landlord or letting agent in the West Suffolk area, we operate a service called the West Suffolk Lettings Partnership. Our Private Letting Co-ordinator works across the area to ensure the landlords' needs are met. We can offer a range of products to ensure tenancies are maintained.  Please visit the West Suffolk Lettings Partnership page for more information on our service.
