St Edmundsbury Borough Council provides a wide range of services to residents, businesses and visitors to the area.
The council is governed by 45 elected borough councillors who are accountable for the services provided by the borough council. They are elected by local communities so that they can:

check the quality of borough council services delivered locally;

decide what services to provide and how much money to spend on them;

help local people to get information about services;

represent the interests of residents; and

use their local knowledge and views to help to make decisions.
Councillors are normally members of a political party but may stand for election as independent candidates. Of 45 borough councillors in St Edmundsbury:

4 are Independent
